Resurgence Conference begins: Mark Driscoll calls pastors to preaching

I am in Seattle with my son Mike and Tim Cain, Bethlehem’s current church planting resident, for the Resurgence Conference. This afternoon the conference began with a message by Mark Driscoll entitled, “Putting Pastors in their Place.” it was an excellent call for pastors (and the church) to value preaching of the word of God. In the message he traces preaching throughout the bible: the preaching of God in creation, the preaching of Christ in his public ministry, the preaching of the apostles in the book of Acts and the preaching of the Word today. He also argues that while preaching is the primary, it is to be done in the context of the church. The message is a great corrective to the devaluation of preaching and devaluation of the church in our day— both in and outside the church.
